As the U.S. commitment to Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom continues, the toll on military personnel and their families continues to grow.
The South Florida Region BRAIVE Fund will support efforts that help service the needs of military personnel and their families in Monroe, Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Martin counties before, during and after deployment, particularly in the areas of family readiness and support; support for military personnel and families transitioning after discharge; services for injured and disabled veterans; and support for surviving family members of fallen heroes.
Grants from the BRAIVE Fund are available to U.S. service men and women and to their families if they served in:
Iraq Theater of Operation: Iraq, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iran, and the surrounding waters & air space
Afghanistan Theater of Operation: Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgistan, China, and the surrounding air space
What is covered
- Vehicle Repairs (To get the vehicle running)
- Basic Utilities (Electric, Water, Phone, Gas etc)
- Security Deposits for Rent and Utilities
- Roof Repairs when not covered by Insurance
- Child Care (In order to go to other appointments, i.e. counseling, Medical, deployment briefs, etc.)
- Air Fares (In connection with medical or life threatening emergencies)
- Hotel cost (In connection with medical or life threatening emergencies)
- Funeral cost (If not covered by military services)
- Fares for Transit to medical or counseling site
- Medical or dental cost normally paid through co-share
- Respite Care
- Pay/allotment problems
Who Qualifies
Resident of Monroe, Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach or Martin counties who:
- Served or are serving in Iraq or Afghanistan Theaters of Operation
- Will deploy to Iraq or Afghanistan within 120 Days
- Family member of Service Member (Dependents)
- Short term help needed (90 days)
- Has attempted to receive help from other Veteran Services
- Nature of Need is characterized as an Emergency
Verification Requirements Any one of the following:
- DD214 plus picture ID
- Copy of Official Military Orders or Deployment Orders plus picture ID
- Medical Board results plus picture ID
- Command Verification (Record of Service)
